Instructor: Sensei Okee
Sensei Okee presents the classes with Anneke Smit assisting him at times. Sensei Okee is a third dan black belt who has experience in karate, kickboxing and fitness for 20 years. He was born in the DRC and studied at Congolese Federation Kyokushin karate and Kick Boxing from 1997-2003. He has an international certificate in Traditional Karate Shotokan and an Instructor Diploma in Kyokushin and Associated Disciplines. When he was living in the DRC he opened his own Karate Dojo. He moved to South Africa in 2012 and works as a karate instructor and started fighting fit.
Sensei Okee has a few titles behind his name. In 2007 and 2009 he won the Congo (DR) Kick Boxing Tournament and in 2008 and 2010 he was the Provincial Champion of Kinshasa in Kyokushin Karate. In 2011 he was the National Champion in Kyokushin. In 2012 he took third place at the Provincial Championship of Kyokushin Karate and was named the most spirited fighter. In 2014 he came third at the Kyokushin Africa National Championship. It was another third place for him at the National Kyokushin Len Barnes tournament in 2015.
He is a dynamic instructor and passionate about teaching people and children self-defence. He was also featured in the Womens Health magazine.
FIGHTING FIT CLASSES
We developed a fitness class that is new and exciting and includes cardio, strength training, stretching and self-defence techniques. For the first half an hour we focus on fitness which also includes high-intensity interval training. A number of exercises included in the sessions are recommended by physiotherapists and biokineticists.
The second part of the training focus is on self defence. You will learn how to punch, how to kick, how to block and how to get yourself out of life-threatening situations. Everyone put on their gloves and we have punching bags where you get the opportunity to practice your punches and kicks.
It is such an empowering session which is great on all levels. Fitness improves, trainees get stronger and are empowered to defend themselves. Another benefit is that we train outside (except when it rains) and it lowers the stress anxiety levels.
KICKBOXING CLASSES FOR CHILDREN
Kickboxing is a great way to keep your child active and to teach them self defence skills. They will be taught how to punch and kick as well as how to strike with their elbows and knees and how to defend themselves.
SELF DEFENCE CLASSES
We offer self defence classes once a month. Participants are taught a few self defence techniques during this class.
PERSONAL TRAINING
Sensei Okee also offers personal training for anyone who is interested to train with a professional fighter and wants to improve their fitness and see results. Personal Training can be done in the comfort of your own home, or he can do it in a park in Sonstraal Heights or at the Hoheizen Park or at a Zone Fitness Gym.
